FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When are the best fishing times? Best Fishing Times will give you the best guide for Kenai Peninsula summer/fall salmon runs. Our trout season runs from the 2nd week in June to mid October.
King Salmon, 1st run are in the streams toward the end of May. By June 15th, the smaller streams such as the Kasilof, Anchor, Deep Creek, Ninilchik are at their peak for the early run. Red Salmon, 1st run are at their peak also starting around the 15th of June until the end of June in the Kenai and Kasilof rivers. 2nd run King Salmon and Red Salmon are at their peak around the 15th of July to the end of July in the Kenai and Kasilof rivers. 1st run Silvers or Coho peak around the 15th of August in most of the creeks around the Kenai Peninsula.
Rainbow and Dolly Varden Trout fishing is at it's best in the month of September. Salmon spawning in streams create an enormous hunger in our resident trout for salmon eggs. If you enjoy catching big fat trout, September is, hands down, the best month to come to the Kenai Peninsula to trout fish. Silver fishing is also very good in the same streams you will find your best trout fishing. If you plan for around the 15th of September, you can't go wrong.
Remember this: 15th of June, 15th of July, 15th of August and 15th of September. If you forget everything else you read here today, these are the most important dates to remember.

What do I need to bring: We provide some of the highest quality fly fishing tackle money can buy, but if you have your own personal rod and reel, bring it. We suggest also full chest waders and personal rain gear. We use Sage, G. Loomis, Thomas & Thomas and Scott rods with Tibor Billy Pate, Ross, Sage and Abel reels for you to choose from.
I have never fly fished before: Mark is a master fly fishing instructor and will show you what you need to know to make your adventure the most enjoyable fly fishing adventure ever. Beginner, novice or expert.
What about bears: We provide all necessary armed protection on all guided fly fishing trips. Please leave your weapons at home. Please understand that there will be bears and other wildlife on our fly fishing trips so bring a camera and binoculars.
What about Mosquitoes & other insects: Yes we have mosquitoes plus other bitting bugs as well, depending on where your fishing trip is scheduled. Some areas have more bitting insects, especially a few of our most popular fly in trips, a lot of them. We recommend a strong combination of bug proofed clothing and your own comfortable repellents. Manufacture company, Ex Officio's Buzz Off clothing will get the job done. I use a Buzz Off ball cap, Buzz Off handkerchef and Buzz Off button up sleeve, long sleeve shirt to keep the pesky critters away. No need for Deet when you are wearing Buzz Off. A net for your head is a must if you are allergic to insect repellent. Deet will dissolve the vinyl off of fly lines so please leave the Deet bug repellent back in your room.
Our NUMBER ONE suggestion for a bug free day without buying the expensive already bug proof clothing is to pre soak before your trip to Alaska the clothing you will be wearing in Bug repellent such as Permethrine Soak Treatment, allow them to dry and then you will be bug free all day long while fishing in Alaska. Permethrine will last as a bug repellent in your clothing even after washing several times after application to the clothes.
