ABOUT US
Alaska Fly Fishing Adventures and Outfitting is owned and operated by Mark and Maryna Conway of Soldotna Alaska. With over twenty four years successfully guiding as a "Purest" fly fishing guide in the Northwest and on the Kenai Peninsula, Mark will put you where the fish are and where the crowds are not.
Mark is best known for his old school classic "Purest" approach to fly fishing. Reading a stream for rising Rainbow, matching the hatch and learning the art of Dry Fly Casting for big Rainbow Trout are his expertise. You will find Mark's passion is taking you away from the crowds of fishers and letting you experience first hand the truth about fly fishing as you wade in the stream or creek to the trout's lie and cast a fly that the trout can not resist.
Mark has also blended his passion with his work, taking his reputation as a Master Portrait Photographer since 1987 and mending his artistic expression with his fly fishing passion. A photo album of professional quality digital photos of your guided trip is a bonus that no other guide service can offer you and at no additional cost to you.
Here on the Kenai Peninsula, you will be located in the heart of Wild Alaskan Salmon country where all 5 species of Pacific Salmon and Steelhead return to their home water to spawn each summer and fall. Besides experiencing the exhilaration of tackle busting salmon from June through October, you will also find the salmon rich streams support a healthy wild native Rainbow and Dolly Varden trout population. Imagine yourself fighting huge salmon or rainbow trout straining your fly rod to Xtremes with your fly fishing guide, Mark Conway always at your side. Mark is a Master fly fishing instructor for beginner, novice and expert fly fishers, teaching and guiding since 1984.
We pride ourselves in not only supplying you with one of the most experienced fly fishing guides in South Central Alaska, but, outfitting you with what we think is the most reliable fly fishing equipment on the planet. Sage, G. Loomis, Scott rods and Tibor Billy Pate, Ross and Abel fly reels are just a few names you can count on that we have for you to choose from.
We are one of a few select guide services in South Central Alaska who would rather escape with you from the crowds of people who flock to this region of Alaska to fish. We would rather fly you into nearby pristine areas than to take your money and subject you to the fishing combat of overcrowded rivers where many people choose to fish in South Central Alaska. With our expertise living in this region of Alaska the past 12 years year around, we know just where and when to go for full day Fly Ins or Hike In fly fishing trips where you can still experience the serenity of a pristine alpine lake or stream. We also encourage you to a two day fishing trip with one overnight camping to your fly fishing trips. See packages for our guided fees to local streams, creeks or pristine lakes away from the busy crowds. Worth every penny.
ABOUT YOUR GUIDE MARK CONWAY
In Washington State, Mark began to master fly fishing for steelhead and salmon during the early '80's in Eastern Washington on the Yakima, Columbia, Grande Rhonde and Walla Walla Rivers. As a professional studio photographer, Mark began to explore the adventures of Outdoor Photography and Fly Fishing as a hobby. Years later, as the popularity of fly fishing began to grow, Mark was in the lead already, photographing and teaching fly fishing others in Washington state.
In 1984 Mark made his first fly fishing discovery of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska while on a fly fishing trip there. Needless to say, his first adventure to Alaska continues on.
In 1984, Mark began fly rod guiding for steelhead and trout in Washington State. His fly rodding guiding experiences began to extend beyond Washington State north to Alaska.
In 1994, at 43, Mark moved to Soldotna Alaska to live year around and guide in the summers. In 1995, Mark started up his own Alaska fly fishing guide service in Soldotna, Alaska Fly Fishing Adventures and Outfitting. Mark made his specialty, "fly fishing in smaller streams in Alaska for Steelhead, Trout and Alaskan Wild Salmon," (all five species.) In 2000, Mark and Maryna were Married. Maryna, who fly fishes for big game fish also, owns her own business hosting people on photo safaris and hunting safaris to Southern Africa and Namibia where she grew up and her family live to this day. Alaska Fly Fishing Adventures Fishing Season:
We begin our guiding season in early June after lakes and streams are opened in the Chugach National Forest for trout and salmon fishing. Our season generally lasts through September just into October.
We specialize in FLY IN and HIKE IN fly fishing experiences. With Alaska Fly Fishing Adventures you can enjoy wade fly fishing streams and creeks or fly in fly fishing trips to breath taking select alpine lakes with pristine undisturbed fly fishing from shore for huge grayling or rainbow trout. Float tube fly fishing is also available on our fly in packages.
OVERNIGHT CAMPING
We will OUTFIT you with gear for camping overnighters and help you make arrangements for either cabin rentals on remote lakes or more rustic wall tent camping arrangements. Knowing the area and wildlife is what we are all about. To enjoy a risk free adventure in Alaska your first visit, you will need an experienced armed guide such as Mark Conway to take the risks out of your Alaskan Fly Fishing Adventures.
